Linking scripts to toolbar buttons
User Tools allow you to to link custom scripts to buttons on FRED's main toolbar. Once set up, simply click on the linked toolbar button to run your script.
To add an existing FRED script to the User Tools toolbar:
- First, we need to add the default User Tools toolbar by selecting View > Customize from the menu. Click on the Toolbars tab, and select User Tools in the list by placing a checkmark in its checkbox. Note: To move any toolbar in FRED from the default location, just position your mouse on the vertical ellipse to the left of the toolbar that you want to move, hold down your mouse button, and then drag it to the new location. Release your mouse button when your toolbar is where you want it to appear.
- Next, select the Commands tab. Select Tools in the Categories list. Drag and drop as many (up to 10) buttons as you need to your new User Tools toolbar. Click Close to exit the dialog box.
- To link your script to the button, select Tools > Preferences from the menu, and click on the File Locations tab. In the File List, use the scroll bar to find the User Tools you added. and look for your User Tools in the File List. Select the icon you wish to link to the script, and use the File Location browser to find the *.frs file.
- Finally, provide text for the tooltip that displays when you hover your mouse over the button. Use the scroll bar to find and select the corresponding Displayed Name.User Tool #. Type your text in the File Location text box. Click on the OK button to save your changes and close the dialog box.
